Abstract: This research is a study about the novel “The time and the turn of Augusto Matraga”, present in the book Sagarana, written by João Guimarães Rosa, in which the saga of the character Augusto Matraga was adopted as the focus. In this context, it is aimed to answer the following research problem: how is the rite of passage of the character Matraga configured? Based on the concepts of chronotope, event and myth, the general objective of this research is to make, based on such concepts, an interpretive analysis of the constitution of Augusto Matraga’s rite of passage. And, as specific objectives, it was aimed to investigate the nuances of Kantian philosophy in the elaboration of the Bakhtinian concept of chronotope and to identify the constituent elements of the conflict in the Rosean novel. As the methodology, this is a qualitative study with a bibliographic review procedure and is anchored in the theoretical framework of Mikhail Bakhtin and Immanuel Kant for a conceptual delimitation of the ideas of chronotope and event in the Bakhtinian perspective, in addition to others that dialogue with the thematic presented. With this research, it was possible to reach the conclusion that the character's trajectory is defined in the relationship with the spaces he travels and with the time in which a crossing is outlined, through the sequence of events that leads to the character's clash with himself.
