Abstract: This text is part of a broader study devoted to the reception and transformation of Aristotle’s De anima in the Arabic medieval world. Previously, following Ivrys’ methodology (2001), a study of the De anima III.5 430a10-25 was made based on the anonymous translation edited by Badawi, the anonymous paraphrase edited by Arnzen, and Avicenna’s On the Soul. Thus, the aim of this case study is to identify the genealogy of the three definitions of soul found in On the Soul I.1 from both Arabic versions of the De anima II.1 412a19-30. The purpose of the analysis of the lexicon found in these versions is to investigate if there are indications of their influences on Avicenna’s On the Soul I.1.
