Abstract: Industries receive daily different types of inputs to supply production lines, such as steel. However, suppliers do not always detail material specifications, what can generate future problems. In this case, it is necessary to carry out physical tests to obtain information about the mechanical properties of the materials, what demands time and costs. As an alternative, it is possible to carry out numerical simulations in order to minimize the associated costs. Based on that, this work proposes the use of the Finite Element Method (FEM) from a cantilever beam model with concentrated load at the free end in order to obtain two mechanical properties of a steel, the modulus of elasticity and the Poisson’s ratio. For this, an inverse analysis of the MEF via the response surface was used to estimate the values of the two mechanical properties of an ASTM A36 steel, which is commonly used in the industry. From the simulated results, a difference of 0;025% and -0;66% was obtained for the modulus of elasticity and for the Poisson’s ratio, respectively, in relation to the values proposed in the literature for the same type of material. This demonstrates the potential of the methodology adopted for industrial applications.
