Resumo: The term Anthropocene was initially proposed in 2000 and has been the subject of theoretical discussions, empirical investigations, and controversies. The purpose of this article is to analyze how to configure the field of studies on the Anthropocene. A bibliographic analysis was performed based on 1,352 articles from the Web of Science. The results indicate that: publications and citation rates have been growing exponentially; the hegemonic debate takes place in the USA and England; research currently has an inter and multidisciplinary character; Crutzen’s geology of humanity (2002); no predominant field in the texts of Natural Sciences, however, authors of social sciences, humanities and philosophy are emerging; a naturalist narrative is still dominant in the field; and there are divergences within disciplines and between different areas of knowledge – the Anthropocene is a contemporary scientific controversy.
