Abstract: This research aims to analyze how Plato distances himself from the religious tradition of Antiquity through the thought of the daîmon. In his dialogue The Symposium Plato will expose the philosophical side of Eros, who until then was known for being an Olympic god, calling him a great daîmon (δαίμων μεγας) from the dialogue between the old master Socrates and the priestess Diotima de Mantineia. For such analysis it was necessary to go through the different notions that the thinkers who preceded the philosopher outlined the meanings (at the semantic level) of the daîmon. Above all, the dissertation brings an analysis of the mythical- philosophical conception of Love in the Symposium and how the notion of daîmon acts on this issue. Finally, demonstrate Socrates' philosophical conceptions through the ''Platonic transposition'' of the notion of daîmon.
