Resumo: This environmental perception survey was carried out in 2019, in the rural community known as “Brasilhinha”, municipality of Carmo do Paranaíba - MG, (area of 14.152 hectares). The basis of this work is associated with the survey of the local and regional mammals, through the methodologies of camera traps, active search and linear transects in two areas (I and II). A questionnaire submitted to the evaluation of the Research Ethics Committee (FAMINAS) was applied to the local population, in order to assess the environmental perception of this rural community. The study environment focused on a historical area of agricultural intervention with a gradual expansion of pasture matrices. Of the 19 species of medium and large mammals, at least five are under hunting pressure (usual practice in the region) and capture. The results obtained indicated the urgency of developing actions aimed at protecting and preserving nature, the need to maintain natural conditions for the areas of fauna families in the region. Note that the lack of adequate inspection and multiplier environmental education programs are the main weaknesses of local and state environmental agencies, constituting challenges for the preservation of these environments.
