Resumo: | After the birth of a baby, many changes take place in the life of the mother and her family. Among these changes is the possibility of worsening the quality of sleep and diet, as well as the risk of postpartum depression (PPD). The present study aims to investigate whether signs of PPD and sleep quality are related to the quality of diet in postpartum women. The sample comes from the prospective project, CAGESLACT - Assessment of Nutritional Status, Behavior and Feeding Practices in the Phases of Pregnancy, Lactation and Food Introduction, from the Federal University of Lavras-UFLA, developed in the south of Minas Gerais. The participants were recruited during the gestational period and invited to continue the research in the period of three to four months postpartum. Sociodemographic, obstetric and anthropometric data were collected. Food consumption was assessed through the report of the usual diet, and the Diet Quality Index Adapted for Pregnant Women (IQDAG) was used to assess the quality of the diet. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was used to analyze the signs of PPD and the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) for the analysis of sleep quality. To compare sociodemographic, obstetric and anthropometric characteristics according to the tertiles of the IQDAG score, the chi-square and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used. The Sperman correlation test was used to investigate the relationship of signs of PPD and sleep quality with the quality of the women's diet, adopting a significance level of 5%. All analyzes were performed using the SPSS software (version 20.0). As for the results, it was not observed between the signs of PPD and sleep quality with the quality of the diet of women in the postpartum period. It was found that the fruit group was the least consumed by women and only 1.9%, 10.6% and 9.6% reached the maximum score for the nutrients omega 3, calcium and folate, respectively. On the other hand, more than 70% of women reached the maximum score for legume consumption. It was concluded that there is no relationship between signs of PPD and sleep quality with diet quality. In addition, the fruit food group and the nutrients omega 3, calcium and folate were the ones with the lowest maximum score in the studied sample. More studies are needed on this sample so that we can understand whether changes considered extrinsic can exert some influence on it. |
