Abstract: In this work are prepared bifunctional catalysts based on zirconium oxide doped with iron and also modified PVA. After calcination at 600 ° C, the catalysts were characterized by vibrational spectroscopy in the infrared, X-ray diffraction, BET surface area, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray, thermal analysis, temperature programmed reduction and titratable acidity. The applicability of the materials was investigated in the degradation of a model molecule, the methylene blue dye in the presence of an oxidizing agent H2O2 and also in the esterification of ethanol isopentanoic acid, this being an important class of organic reactions for producing esters organic acids and alcohols. The prepared catalyst had a high surface area ranging 168-257 m2 g-1. A fade up 93.9% of the methylene blue molecule was possible. The formation of ethyl isopentanoato was proven in GC-FID analysis.
