Abstract: In the production of pigs, many factors contribute to the zootechnical and economic efficiency, but there is no doubt that the nutrition and food management of breeding pigs have a huge impact on the reproductive performance of the initial. All phases of the reproductive cycle are related and, therefore, the food program in either will have significant effects on the development of the next phase. It is important to note that such effects, a food deficit, for example, may not be noticed immediately, causing thereby future problems of importance to the productive chain as a whole. The initial of gilts is a group of extreme importance within a system of production of pigs, as it represents, in other words, the "future" of productivity. The proper preparation of gilts means matrices of high productivity, allowing animals to the expression of its maximum genetic potential. Among all the care necessary for the formation of a good parent, the nutritional management is extremely important. Females poorly nourished this stage mean quite significant losses in productivity of the initial and often permanent during the productive life of the animal. Despite the existence of many studies on nutrition of pigs consequence, it is important to gather some information most important to their interaction with the reproduction of female in the initial replacement. It is important to stress that is not the objective of this review erosion of matter, but show the importance of adequate nutrition program and the importance of nutritional within a system of production of pigs.
