Resumo: When we consider the library as a space for the materialization of the memory and the material and immaterial cultural heritage of a people, it is essential to understand the historicity of these reading spaces, as well as their contributions to the preservation of the culture of the communities. Thus, the research prioritized child-oriented reading spaces, such as children's public libraries. It should be noted that the attentive look of the children's library for early childhood is undoubtedly to awaken the taste for reading of young readers, to favor the process of literary literacy, since the mediation of literary reading is essential for reading education. In view of this, this study aimed to identify and reflect on the reading actions and projects promoted by the Children's and Youth Public Library of Belo Horizonte (BIPJ-BH), which is a reference and precursor in the area in the State of Minas Gerais for young readers, as well as to describe its historicity, the spaces and collections of the library. To this end, the study assumed as a methodological procedure a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory approach through field research in the contexts of the library, in which the data were collected through notes in a field diary and observations of the actions and reading projects that occur in the library. To this end, the data analysis process occurred through the observations made and the notes in the field diary. Regarding the theoretical framework used to guide the analysis, it was primarily based on the studies of: Bajour (2012), Colomer (2007) and Petit (2008; 2009; 2013; 2017) regarding literary reading, Munita (2014) and Vigotski (1986; 1989; 1996; 1998) in relation to the mediation of reading, Klebis (2006), Pimenta (2001; 2007; 2011) and Silva (1995) regarding the theme of the library. As an educational product, the research culminated in the realization of the actions of mediation of literary reading observed in the BIPJ-BH as inspiration, in a school library of the municipal public network, located in the South of Minas Gerais, of an institution in which the researcher works as a teacher. The purpose of the literary measurement activity was to boost the formation of readers during reading classes, which correspond to the practices guaranteed by the school curriculum. In short, as a primary result of the research, it is necessary to endorse that it achieved its proposed objectives in identifying and reflecting on the reading actions and projects developed by the Children's and Youth Public Library of Belo Horizonte, thus allowing to give more visibility to children's public libraries and the actions of mediation of literary reading developed in these reading spaces. These are fundamental for the formation of young readers.
