Abstract: The analysis of seeds using the biospeckle laser (BSL) technique is recognized as a viable methodology for conducting vigor testing. However, the technique presents access limitations for end users, such as those related to its low portability. This study aimed to propose a more compact configuration of the image capture system used by the BSL technique for seed analysis. A digital mini-microscope with integrated magnification was tested with an adapted diaphragm at different apertures (3, 4, 5 mm, and fully open). Tests of the adapted mini- microscope with the diaphragm were conducted for monitoring paint drying and evaluating the quality of high and low vigor common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) seeds, compared to the traditional laboratory system. Seed quality assessment was also validated by comparison with an emergence test. The results using the 3 mm aperture showed the best performance, similar to the traditional laboratory system with an f/16 aperture. The paint drying results showed a fit of R2 = 0.944 for the proposed capture system in relation to mass loss measurements. The separation of high and low vigor seeds was obtained at a 5% significance level using the BSL technique in the proposed compact dedicated system, also validated by the emergence test. The compact system dedicated to seed analysis using the BSL technique proved to be viable, allowing reliable portability for seed analysis laboratories and field applications.
