Abstract: The state of Minas Gerais has the fourth largest cattle herd in Brazil. According to the IBGE, in 2022 the state grew by 0.6% compared to 2021, reaching 23 million head. This scenario shows that monitoring cattle production is an important factor for planning by public and private agents, since each biome presents specific challenges and opportunities that must be taken into account when planning and managing beef production. Therefore, using data analysis techniques, this study sought to evaluate the performance of the production indexes of extensive and intensive beef cattle farming among the biomes present in the state of Minas Gerais, in addition to making public the average of the last five years of production, productivity, herd, number of family and non-family farmers in the activity. The data used in this study comes from the monitoring of beef cattle production carried out by Emater-MG between 2019 and 2023. After statistical analysis, it was found that the production indices are different between the biomes of the state of Minas Gerais, and there is no correlation between a greater number of individuals in the activity with greater total production and average productivity, because compared to the cerrado and Atlantic forest biomes, the caatinga biome, despite having the largest herd and the greatest number of farmers in the activity, shows the lowest performance in both average productivity and total production. In view of the above, it is necessary for public and private research bodies, together with technical assistance and rural extension, to take targeted action for each specific biome, respecting its potential and, above all, its socio- economic and soil and climate characteristics.
