dc.descriptionInvestigou-se a resposta do sistema antioxidante de mudas de Coffea arabica L. cultivares Catuaí e Mundo Novo ao encharcamento do substrato. Para isto, as mudas com oito pares de folhas completamente expandidas foram submetidas a três condições de disponibilidade de água: capacidade de campo, encharcamento intermitente e encharcamento contínuo. As avaliações foram realizadas na implementação do experimento e cinco meses após a indução dos tratamentos, quando foram avaliadas a atividade das enzimas antioxidantes e o conteúdo de ascorbato. Houve uma resposta do sistema antioxidante enzimático e não enzimático das mudas de cafeeiro à condição de estresse, permitindo às plantas suportarem o encharcamento do substrato, por um período de 150 dias. A cultivar Catuaí apresentou um sistema antioxidante mais ativo do que a cultivar Mundo Novo.
dc.descriptionWe investigated the response from antioxidant system of Coffea arabica L. seedlings from Catuaí and Mundo Novo cultivars to waterlogging. For this, acclimated seedlings with eight pairs of completely expanded leaves were submitted to three conditions of water availability: field capacity, intermittent waterlogging and continuous waterlogging. The evaluations were performed at the beginning of the experiment and five months after waterlogging. Activity of antioxidant enzymes and levels  of ascorbate were evaluated. There was a response of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant system of coffee seedlings to stress condition, allowing the plants to survive under waterlogging for 150 days. The antioxidant system was more active in Catuaí than in Mundo Novo cultivar.
