Abstract: In order to evaluate the technical and economical viability of inclusion of Coffee Hulls (DM 86.7%; CP 10.2%; FDN 55% and 2.500 Kcal DE/kg) in a isoenergetics growing and finishing rations it was carried out at the Animal Science Department of University of Lavras (UFLA) two metabolism assay and one performance trial. The metabolism assay were conducted by utilizing 12 crossbred (LD xLW) barrows in growing phase (34.80±4.05 kg/BW) and 12 in finishing phase (60.70±1.61 kg/BW) distributed in a metabolism stell cage. The experiment were in a randomized split-plot design with 12 parcels and 24 subparcels for each phase studied. A total of the Ninety six crossbred (LD x LW) barrows and gilts from with a average weight of 34.4±3.4 kg/BW, were utilized in the performance assay, in order to determine the influence of increasing of coffee hulls in isoenergetics rations for growing and finishing pigs. The experiment was in a randomized block design were allotted by weight, with four treatments and six replicates, the experimental unit was represented by pens with four pigs (2barrows and 2 gilts). The treatments were formed by inclusion level of coffee Hulls of 0.0; 5.0; 10.0 and 15.0% replacing corn in a isoenergetics rations (15 % and 13% CP with 3.350 Kcal/ED/kg) for growing and finishing phase respectively. The increasing inclusion level of coffee hulls decreased linearly (P<0,01) the Digestibility coefficients of Dry Matter, Crude Protein, Fiber Neutral Detergent, Nitrogen Retention as well as Energetic values (DE and ME) of rations. The data from performance trial shown significative difference (P<0.01) of increasing of coffee hulls on the pigs performance. The weight gain, decreased linearly by the increase of coffee hulls in the rations. The feed intake also shown decreased linearly as coffee hulls increased in the rations. These results shown that the coffee hulls in a isoenergetics rations should not be used as altemative feed for growing and finishing pigs. However the economic viability should be considered based on market prices relation among coffee hulls, corn and vegetable oil. By considering the price at the south of Minas Gerais state from March/99 the use of coffee hulls at level up to 5% in growing and finishing pigs rations shown to be technically and economically viable.
