Abstract: The present work aimed at the characterization of the calorific properties (Higher calorific value - HCV) and the elementary constituents (carbon - C, hydrogen - H, nitrogen - N, sulfur - S, carbon / nitrogen ratio - C/N and carbon / hydrogen – C/H) resulting from the burning of five different brands of automotive tires without condition of use. It was observed that the different tires presented statistically the same average levels of the following elements: Carbon ratio (79,50%), hydrogen (6,77%), sulfur (1,53%), C/H ratio (11,76).When considering the location of the sample (sidewall or tire tread) in the different tire types, a significant interaction is observed for N, C/N ratio and HCV. The latter (HCV) averaging 8810 kcal/kg for the tread and 8771 kcal/kg for the sidewall.
