Abstract: The present work is part of the studies developed in the Reading and Speech Production Research Group (GPLPD-UFLA) in which its objective is to analyze the hyperbolic discourse in the process of violence construction in journalistic discourse and to present hyperbole as a reading process in the construction of the effects of meaning in the discourse of violence and journalistic discourse. For the development of our research we chose as corpus news from two newspapers of Minas Gerais with great demand: Estado de Minasand Super Notícias. Thus, we apply the category of hyperbole, shifting its concept from language to discourse, and interdiscourse as a way to highlight the news and establish the possibility of an exaggeration in the discourse. In this way, hyperbole is a resource that intensifies thefact that news is no longer in the scope of violence as an act, but as a discourse about the event, which characterizes states of violence. The hyperbole intensifies the breakdown of the stereotype, the notion of quantity, terrifying fiction, among others. Therefore, this resource is an efficient strategy of involvement by bringing the co-enunciator into the positioning of the enunciator by exploiting sensationalism.
