Abstract: Family business enterprises have been subject of growing research interest. Different research themes have emerged to understand and to characterize the issues related to this sort of organization. Despite the recognition of its scientific importance, there are topics understudied by researchers from the field Business Administration. Thus, it is important to search of new insights from family business study, applying a multidisciplinary perspective. The purpose of this paper is to discuss socio-anthropological approaches to understand the dynamics of family businesses. To achieve this purpose, we articulated issues related to kinship relations in family firms. We conclude that research on family business cannot be restricted to the study of their managerial and strategic aspects. In other words, research on family business should also understand issues associated with the family and the interaction between family and business, aggregating sociological and anthropological perspectives in this effort. To investigate this dynamic means to comprehend the intrinsic elements which affect the nature of family businesses.
