Abstract: This paper analyses frequency effects in the writing of consonant clusters by children. We focus on tautosyllabic clusters, formed by an obstruent plus a tap. This kind of cluster represents a challenge for learners because, besides syllabic complexity (CCV syllable type), they are subject to variation in oral language (FREITAS, 2001). The main theory used in this study is the Network Model (BYBEE, 2001) which considers frequency (type and token frequency) as fundamental in language change. The data for this research are from a writing corpus, called e-Labore, composed of texts produced by children with ages between 6 and 12 years old.
