Abstract: TheglobalpandemicofCOVID-19haschangedsocialrelations,imposingsocialdistancing andmakingclasseshappenremotely.Thisledtosomecrucialquestionsregardinghow,whyand whatistaught,leadingeducationalinstitutions toaconstant searchforimprovementor digitalliteracyrelatedtotechnologicalandpedagogicalfluency,inordertobeabletofollowupthe routinesofstudies,teachingandlearning.Thus,thisarticleaimstoreflectonsituations oflanguageuseintheprocessofteachingthePortugueselanguagein the pandemiccontextinpublic schoolsthrough virtualenvironments,inviewoftherequirementsofnewpositions andpedagogicalstrategiestoensuretheteachingandlearningprocessremotely.Thestudyisclassifiedas descriptiveandexplanatoryandisbasedonthetheoreticalperspectivesoflanguagescholarssuchasBakhtin(2003),Ilari(2001),Fairclough(2006),Freitas(1994;2010),Isaía(1988),Santos(2015)andVieiraandSilvestre(2015).Itisexpectedthatthisworkwillcontributetoareflectionontheteachingof Portugueselanguageinthesenewtimes,since,inaddition tobasictechnologicalknowledge,teachers andstudentsare requirednewskillsandabilitiestouselanguagetoestablishcommunication.
