Abstract: In this study the main objective was to critically understand how "the work of the Technician in Educational Affairs" is presented in the Brazilian legislations within the scope of the Public University. Thus, I took into account the premise that the discussion about the "work theme" it is extremely important to the current and historical moment, in that this functional category has become an integral component of the technical-administrative positions in education. For this, the research was inspired by some aspects of the qualitative methodology called "objective hermeneutics" elaborated by the German sociologist Ulrich Oevermann based on the interpretive tradition by Theodor W. Adorno's Critical Theory. In the search for the satisfactory result of this purpose, I first defined the theoretical study of the work conception present in the thought of Karl Marx / Engels and authors who studied them. The discussion of the work as a process of social being formation, the alienation problem, the presentation of capitalism in texts of authors from Critical Theory of Society, then I carried out a survey of the laws that described the activities of the Technician in Educational Affairs, together with the study of the conjuncture from 1970 to 2005. I evaluate by means theoretical study and documents analysis, according to referred methodology. The research allowed an increase of the theoretical knowledge on the subject, besides providing a visualization of the activities proposed in the official documents. I hope that a research can establish a basis to carry out new studies, with a focus on the day to day, in sectors of action of the Technician in Educational Affairs at the Public University.
