Abstract: In this work we discuss the debate concerning the field in which the EE (Environmental Education) is presented as a policy option in a process of collective construction, standing as a prospect of changing the reality of the communities involved. In this direction, we try to address the methodologies and procedures applied to EE, highlighting the educational practice based on the ‘listening’ of community speech towards the need of contextualization of socio-environmental issues, thus, departing from the world view of the actors involved. We do not intend to bring out formulas or techniques, nor even develop some sort of EE "manual", but rather to propose a discussion of the EE as an instrument of perception and autonomy, having as references the ontological dimension and endogenous processes of collective participation.
