Abstract: The use of methods and technologies such as drying and recoating adds value to the seeds and helps plants establishment. Therefore the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of drying and film coating on physiological and sanitary quality of tomato and eggplant during storage. The hybrids of tomato and eggplant, TEX 249 and UGA MS1, respectively, were used. Seeds were subjected to two types of drying: slow (room temperature) and quick (oven with forced air circulation at 35ᵒC) until they reach 7% moisture. The treatment was performed with the Captan product at a dose 250 grams per 100 kilograms of seed and for the recoating were used three doses of polymer: 0,3 and 6 ml/kg of seeds, corresponding to (0, 100 and 200% of the dose recommended by the manufacturer). The storage effect, recoating and storage were evaluated every three months. The sanitary and physiological qualities were evaluated by Blotter test germination, seedling emergence test, seedling establishment and controlled deterioration. By the results, it is concluded that the drying speeds did not affect the physiological quality of tomato seeds, however, the eggplant seeds dry at room temperature resulted in better quality seed. The absence of the polymers use and quick drying favoring the incidence of Penicillium in tomato seeds. It was also observed that there is a reduction of physiological seed quality during storage, regardless of the speed drying and the polymer use.
