Nível de informação sobre anticoncepção em adolescentes de escolas públicas e particulares de um município da região sul do estado do Tocantins

Abstract

Introduction: The contraceptive is given as a solution to the problem of teenage pregnancy, however is not a simple matter at any age, much less in adolescence. Objective: To analyze the sources of information, knowledge and use of contraceptives by adolescents in public and private schools. Methods: Crosssectional study, descriptive study through a questionnaire on students in public and private, aged between 12-17 years. Results: The study showed that 98.8% of adolescents knew some kind of contraceptive method, 67.15% of students rated their knowledge as "good", being the method most frequently mentioned by young people condoms (98%), followed by morning after pill (43.6%) and oral medications (38%). The main sources of information cited were from the family (42.8%), television (30.4%) and friends (28.8%). Entres adolescents evaluated from both institutions who reported sexual initiation, 72.5% reported using a contraceptive method, and is also referred to as the condom (87.5%). Conclusion: There was an early sexual initiation in this population, significant differences were detected among the population arising from private schools compared to public.
