Resumo: One of the main problems which affect and undermine the cultivation of pitaya is the occurrence of pests that alter the external as well as the internal quality of the fruit. An alternative to try to minimize these problems would be the populational monitoring the of these insects using traps made from plastic bottles containing attractive food. The objective of this work was to test the efficacy of different traps and attractive food for catching insects in a pitaya orchard. The experiment was conducted in the orchard in the Fruit Sector of Federal University of Lavras between the months of November and December 2013. Plastic bottles of 2 L capacity were used in the manufacture of traps, in which was added 200 mL of attractive food. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in a factorial 2 x 3 with two types of traps (holes of 1 and 3 cm) and three attractive foods (orange juice, passion fruit pulp juice and sugar water), with four replicates and three bottles per plot. The treatments were: T1 –Orange juice + 1 cm, T2 – Orange juice + 3 cm, T3 – Passion fruit pulp juice + 1 cm, T4 – Passion fruit pulp juice + 3 cm; T5 – Sugar water + 1 cm, T6 – Sugar water + 3 cm. Data were subjected to analysis of variance by the SISVAR program and means were compared by the Tukey test at 5% probability. The use of sugar water and orange juice in the traps was effective for the capture and monitoring of Irapuá bees and ants, respectively, in the pitaya culture in Lavras-MG.
