Abstract: The corn presents favorable characteristics toa high quality silage production. However, aerobic deterioration problems are ordinary at the opening silos phase. The aim of this study was to evaluate epiphytic strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) on corn plants belonging to the Lactobacillus buchneri group, using means as fermentative profile, microbial count, nutritive value, aerobic stability and storage time. The treatments were consisted of: i) Corn silage with no inoculation at all (CON) ii) Corn silage inoculated with Lactobacillus farraginis(application rates 8 log CFU g-1), iii) Corn silage inoculated with Lactobacillus buchneri(application rate 5 log CFU g-1). Dates of 0, 29, 103, 193 of storage time were evaluated by their final fermentation products, microbial counts, nutritive value and aerobic stability. The data were analyzed using fat2.dic function of the ExpDes.pt package from the R statistic software (R CORE TEAM, 2019). Two contrasts were tested for comparison purposes: i) CON vs. L. farraginis, ii) CON vs. L. buchneri. Significance was declared as P< 0,05. All the silages were properly stocked, with pH values in general lower on the silages CON. However, the inoculated silages had bigger concentrations of acetic acid and 1,2-propanediol which proves the LAB inoculated establish. At the time of 29 the L. farraginis silage obtained the lowest yeast population. The molds population differed in time, obtaining bigger counts at the time of 103 stocking days. The DM losses during stocking times did not differ significantly between those treatments. The aerobic stability at 29 and 103 were the longest to the inoculated silage using L. farraginis strains. On productive systems that have a need of opening those silos with less storage time, the epiphytic Lactobacillus farraginis strain becomes an inoculation source to increase aerobic stability.
