Abstract: This article proposes a discussion about the construction of Giovanni Boccaccio’s (1313-1375) authorial image, focusing on the relation of this construction and elements of the Roman poet Ovid (43 B.C.-17 A.D.) author’s representation. More specifically, we will focus on aspects of the image of an author who defends his work from the envy of potential critics. Excerpts from the Decameron(1348-1351) and the work De Mulieribus Claris(1361-1362), among the boccaccian corpus selected, will be compared with excerpts from the Ovidian texts of Remedia amoris(1 B.C.-1 A.D.) and Tristia (9-12 A.D.). This comparison will be supported by an intertextual methodology applied to classical studies. Thus, this article will convey that the comparison between passages of Boccaccian and Ovidian texts raises new possible readings of the work of the Renaissance author, providing us with renewed reflections on Boccaccio’s authorial representation.
