Abstract: The present work aims to identify, under the symbolic perspective, the impact of the death of the founder of organizational culture in two family organizations. The theoretical basis used is the organizational culture in the symbolic approach (SMIRCICH, 1983) and their interrelations with the death of the founder (FLEURY, 1987; FREITAS, 1991). We used the qualitative research method of case study, in-depth interviews and content analysis. The survey was conducted in two family organizations who had experienced the death of its founders in the last two years. For the presentation of results, we developed four analytical categories: the break with the old order, the resistance as a way of maintaining the fight, the stories of heroes and the myth of the founder and its symbols. The results showed that the death of the founders had influence on the culture of these organizations – the myth of the founder.
