Abstract: Nutrition has important implications in all the stages experienced by a patient that will undertake liver transplantation. Before transplantation, most patients are malnourished, which is a risk factor of morbimortality. Adequate methods for nutrition diagnosis and dietary recommendation for cirrhosis patients are usually undervalued by health professionals and may reflect on iatrogenic behavior. Upon transplantation, patients should follow early dietary therapy and also therapy in the case of immunosuppressive drug-induced hypomagnesaemia, hyperkalemia and diabetes mellitus. Overweight, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemias and metabolic syndrome in the late post-surgery are common in this population and should prevented and treated with the help of adequate nutritional monitoring.
