Abstract: There are many solutions applied to residential and/or commercial automation, but finding alternatives that simplify the current models has been a tireless search for researchers, it is in this aspect that this work followed, with the objective of designing a radio frequency identification card reader (RFID). For activating an electromagnetic lock, which controls access to internal and external environments. Thus, it is intended to control the access of people, and may even replace the use of physical keys to open doors, in order to prevent it from being used by other users, copied or lost. The work was carried out on the premises of the Federal University of Lavras, more precisely at the Directorate of Technology and Information Management (DGTI) where the prototype was designed and implemented. The system has a printed circuit board, a composite material manufactured by the additive manufacturing process using the Simplifly3D software. The components were installed forming an internal control module, containing printed circuit boards together with the microcontroller and other modules belonging to the system. The system was composed of two modules with RFID sensors called external control module and internal control module. The system works when the ID card is brought close to the tag reader, the system reads and performs all the processing: what is the name of the tag, identifies what is the id and queries internally and, if there is no local record, it will try locate at the server level. Still in the internal control module, there is the microcontroller, which makes the entire control process. Communication with the database is carried out over the ethernet network, using Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). The language applied to receive the data and perform the treatment and storage of information in the database is Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) version 5.3. The equipment presented satisfactory results for access control, authenticating all users with allowed access to the room. During the testing period, 2155 accesses were recorded. In addition, the system was able to store data for later analysis, manage access to the rooms and act on the procedures for opening and closing doors through electromagnetic locks installed on the doors.
