Abstract: The objective was to characterize100 dairy farms, in a family economy regime, from the Mesoregion of Vale do Acre, in the Western Amazon, with regard to technical, economic, environmental and professional aspects considering different levels of milk productivity. Data were collected fromMarch to June 2016, using a semi-structured form, containing 43 questions, through observation on site, as well as answers related to the owners; and registered in Excel® spreadsheets. Descriptive methodology was adopted for data analysis. The survey revealed a greater presence of young people in the rural area when compared to the national average, but the low education and professional training perpetuate the low adoption of technologies, not of zootechnical and managerial control in addition to the limited perception of environmental preservation. It was concluded that there is sustainable production in the State, however, it is necessary to invest more in the educational area, transfer and technological incorporation, in addition to effective technical and managerial control by producers.
