Abstract: | Breaking free from utilitarian perspectives, contemporary Portuguese-speaking African children’s and youth’s literary texts bring readers different themes, as well as different narrative formats. A Viagem, by Mozambican writer Tatiana Pinto (2016), is part of this group of artistic works, enabling immersion in the traditional Mozambican universe, based on the collection of an oral history, but inserting constituent elements of current democracies. From the understanding of Pinto’s text in the category of “retelling” (HUNT, 2012), this article aims to reflect on how the question of gender is inserted in the narrative, whether from the initial collection, in the 19th century, or in the author’s rewriting, through new elements that update the story to the contemporary public. |
