Abstract
The historic gardens are of great value to the public as they involve natural, social, and cultural aspects since their creation and also in the evolution, being possible to link the past to the present. To this end, the objective was to develop a suitable methodology to perform the historical, cultural and landscaping rescue of squares and gardens. The methodology consists of the combination of inventive analysis that perceives the physical evolution of the space and morphological transformations, associated with a subjective analysis that involves aesthetic, phenomenological and symbolic values. Indeed, indications for preserving and intervention in historic gardens are considered. The study of historic gardens, in addition to a cursory and direct interpretation, should also consider the social, spatial and historical contexts. Stitching together all these elements and pieces (patches) result in a quilt or a formulate history with understanding the evolution of the place.
