A construção social e cultural de gênero no filme “Adoráveis Mulheres”, de Greta Gerwig

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of gender in the film adaptation Little Women (2019), directed by Greta Gerwig, from the perspective of intertextuality with the homonymous work by Louisa May Alcott. The objective of this research is to investigate the trajectory of the character Jo March in the Victorian era, examining how her cinematic transposition enhances the debate on female autonomy and identity. The analysis is grounded in gender studies and the perspective of intertextuality, articulating these approaches with the investigation of the construction of the protagonist‘s subjectivity and the sociocultural tensions present in the narrative. The methodology is based on film and bibliographic analysis, allowing the establishment of relationships between the film adaptation and the historical and literary context of the original work. As an educational product, the book Cinematic Literacy in the Classroom is proposed, aimed at teachers and high school students. The work systematizes a strategy of visual literacy that, through accessible language adapted to the school audience, equips the educational community to critically analyze narratives and identify underlying layers related to social justice. It is concluded that the study and the resulting pedagogical material contribute to the development of cinematic literacy in the school context, strengthening critical reflection on the politics of gender representation in education and in contemporary society.
