Abstract: The registration of cases of people who are absent from work activities due to suffering from mental illnesses has been growing year after year in Brazil, and occupy the third position among the causes of granting social security benefits. Mental health is a relevant topic and is conquering the scope of research in organizational studies and people management. In this context, many strategies can assist in the prevention, early identification, support and rehabilitation of the worker's mental health. Christophe Dejours, a French doctor, points out that it is necessary to study suffering, as it is a fundamental requirement to understand the state of struggle that the subject operates to survive psychological problems and from there, clarifies the important role of preventive interventions that can be implemented by the organization. Regarding this theme within the Federal Higher Education Institutions (IFES), factors such as the lack of transparency and participation in management, the limitation of the power of action in the development of activities, among others, hamper the work processes of the Technical- Administrative servers in Education (TAEs), favoring the appearance of mental suffering. Still in relation to the theme, the Ministry of Health signals that interventions related to psychological suffering must be conceived in the reality of the daily life of the territory, with the community singularities in which the understanding of the strategies of this area occurs in the understanding of what they experience. actors. Faced with these reflections, the question arises: what strategies could be used in an IFES when dealing with the problem of mental suffering of TAEs? This research seeks to understand and identify which strategies can be carried out in an IFES to alleviate the problem of psychological suffering of TAEs.The qualitative method was used, through a theoretical-empirical case study that sought to know the work of these civil servants and understand the panorama of mental health in the context of the IFES. The results showed that the main motivating factors for conflicts and mental suffering are overload, competitiveness, difficulty in interpersonal relationships, failure in organizational communication, function deviations, fear and insecurity, among others. To address this issue, the actions must be guided by factors such as work dimensioning, flexibility, managerial training, welcoming service, listening and implementing activities aimed at the Worker's Quality of Life. This research also points out the benefits of using individual and collective strategies on the part of workers such as physical activities, alternative practices such as meditation, medical / therapeutic treatment, among others for the worker's mental health. Finally, combined organizational strategies are presented, such as the creation of a community space for speech and the implementation of an institutional policy, as measures that can expand the mental health care of workers.
